VAB Shareholder Aurora Austriaco is the 2020 recipient of the Cook County State’s Attorney Foxx’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Community Leadership Awards in observance of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The Community Leadership Awards honor the accomplishments of outstanding individuals in the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community.

Candidates for the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Community Leadership Awards must be Cook County residents and are considered using the following criteria:

  • Leadership, honor, and integrity

  • Community involvement and activism

  • Volunteer/ Pro-Bono work

  • Youth involvement and/or mentorship programs

Lydia Buschel Co-Planner of Innovative. On behalf of the NAMWOLF Cross-Marketing Committee Zoom Roundtable

VAB shareholder Lydia Bueschel co-planned an innovative #NAMWOLF solution to #StayingConnected. On behalf of the NAMWOLF Cross-Marketing Committee, Lydia and Amanda Alexander Taylor assisted Jane Kalata of the National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF) in developing a Zoom-based roundtable discussion series, that is free and open to all members. The discussions tackle topics like working from home and what the new marketing norms are. The pilot series took place today and yesterday, with more in the works. #vabulous

#VAB Shareholder, Aurora Austriaco is honored to co-host the 3rd and 4th webinars of the Asian American Executive Network (AAEN) #COVID-19 APA Business Advocacy Webinar series. The 4th of this series taking place on May 20th. These free webinars are open to all. The #AAEN is a volunteer-based network of Asian American Executives and Advocates who come together to support each other and the #APA communities.

Chicago, 23 May 2019 – As part of the celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, two distinguished Filipino-Americans were recognized by Illinois State Secretary Jesse White for their achievements in their respective fields. One of which was VAB Shareholder, Aurora Austriaco who was honored with the Judge Laura Cha-Yu Liu Trailblazer Award.

VAB shareholder, Aurora Austriaco participated as a panelist on the program “What is Success? Filipinas Who Found It?” hosted by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and the Philippine Consulate of Chicago on August 23, 2018.  Other panelists included author Terry Samala de Guzman, Johanna Mirpiru-National Cooking Personality and owner of Mommacuisine, Leslie Mendoza Temple- Medical Director of the Northshore University Health System’s Integrative Medicine Program and  Clarita Santos-Director of Community Health Initiatives at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.

In 2018 VAB attorney Sandy Morris was the recipient of the CVLS Distinguished Service Award for her pro bono work in the community.

The Chicago Volunteer Legal Services is comprised of 2,400+ volunteer attorneys who donate free services to thousands of low-income Chicagoans annually. Our services are 100% free, accessible & real. 

We have done our best to bring together all the resources of the great city of Chicago. We do this by utilizing our small staff to support and train a pool of thousands of volunteer attorneys from more than 990 firms, companies, and organizations throughout the city. We support, organize and train these wonderful volunteers in order to make the biggest impact in the most cost-effective way possible.
