Experience
Jack joins Valentine Austriaco & Bueschel after serving in the City of Chicago Department of Law, where he defended the City and its departments in federal and state constitutional litigation and contractual disputes. His work primarily involved litigating issues of free speech, due process, equal protection, and takings, and included multi-party and class action litigation. In addition to his litigation work, Jack also advised City stakeholders on potential constitutional implications for proposed City ordinances and policies. Jack uses his background as a journalist prior to law school to dig into disputes while asking the key questions and delivering clear, concise advocacy.
Immediately prior to his time with the City, Jack spent two years clerking for the then-chief judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, where he was responsible for researching and drafting judicial orders and other products concerning the wide variety of civil and criminal issues that came before the court. While clerking, Jack also assisted in the preparation and conduct of criminal and civil trials and hearings on topics ranging from gang conspiracy and securities fraud to patent infringement and contractual disputes. His experience drawn from his time both in front of and behind the bench allows him to be an insightful and effective litigator.
