Experience

Lydia represents businesses and government entities in investigating and defending employment claims, protecting creditors’ rights, and investigating and litigating contract disputes and business torts, including those involving fraud and professional liability. Lydia works closely with her clients to create a cost-effective approach to each matter and is known for her open communication and responsiveness to client needs. Lydia trained as a mediator with the Center for Conflict Resolution and spent five years as a social worker prior to law school. She is a member of the Northern District of Illinois Trial Bar and was named an Illinois “Super Lawyer” in the area of General Litigation from 2015 – present.

Representative Engagements

  • Lydia represents businesses in investigating and defending employee claims of discrimination and retaliation under federal, state, and local laws in administrative agencies and in federal and Illinois state courts.

  • Lydia represents creditors in collection actions to recover payments due under contracts and judgments.  When a debtor files for bankruptcy, Lydia represents creditors in bankruptcy matters and, when necessary, through adversary proceedings. 

  • Lydia represented the interests of creditors in litigating fraudulent transfer claims against the former directors and officers of the predecessor to a bankrupt company, and after obtaining partial summary judgment on key issues, reached a substantial and favorable settlement of claims with the directors, officers, and their carrier.

  • Lydia conducts professional liability investigations for the receiver of insolvent financial institutions located around the country.  She has assisted the receiver in obtaining numerous pre-filing settlements from directors and officers (and their insurers) and has represented the receiver in federal suits against directors, officers, and former service providers, all of which have been favorably resolved.

  • Lydia has successfully tried cases for her clients, including on issues of breach of fiduciary duty; breach of contract; and unjust enrichment.
